I recently read a literacy narrative on Malcom X. I found it a little crazy that a man would actually read the dictionary. I looked online to see if I could find out if other people really do read the dictionary and I found a youtube video (below) of a man actually reading straight out of the dictionary. I always thought the dictionary would be boring to read, but until listening to this guy, I didn't gain the respect for Malcolm X that he deserved. This guy had a lot of determination and must have been very eager to learn those words. I knew Malcolm X never had a lot of education, and it makes me wonder whether i could learn more in jail than I am learning in school. I wonder if that kind of situation would motivate you to educate yourself.
The other literary narrative I read seemed just as interesting. I guess it is possible to learn whatever you want whenever you want as long as you want to do it. The little boy began reading when he was three, that;s amazing. I was quick to learn how to read as well, but it took me a long time to learn how to tell time and this kid was doing that as well. I give most of the credit to the grandparents though, because they were the boy's motivation. The only reason the boy wanted to learn how to read and tell time was so he could be like his grandmother. Her encouragement for the boy allowed him to be the first in the family to graduate college. Kudos to Grandma!
